Gymnastic Clips

As I’ve reported here I’ve started going back to gymnastics. My skills quickly returned and I feel I’m beginning to break new ground. Below you can watch a couple clips from Tuesday night’s session.

First off, the back flip. I’m happy to be able to do this skill once again on the floor. But as you can see in the video I’m still jumping too far back and not up enough. Sometimes even when you know what you need to do, its not always easy to correct it. But then last night I was on and going just about straight up.

Second is the round-off to the back handspring. One of the things I haven’t quite mastered yet is stringing moves together. Hence this move, as I’m just getting use to it is done on mats. It feels fairly easy but I know I’ll need many more reps in it.

Third in the video is swings on the parallel bars, as I mentioned previously here. One of the great things about video is that is shows you your weaknesses. In some ways it can be even better than a coach, as someone else can tell me what I’m doing, but seeing it myself is something else. What I noticed here was that my legs were not tight and together. Once I corrected that I was getting more air.

I’ll be having more clips in the future.

Indian Pole Gymnastics

I have seen some of these Indian Pole Gymnastics before but this video which was sent to me recently showcases the variety of skills quite well.

Although most people may not be familiar with this gymnastic art it is well known in the area. The skills are similar yet different from any other gymnastics event taking strength, flexibility and skill.

You even get to watch the flipping dismounts here. My personal favorite is the second man in this video showing that even bigger guys can do these kind of skills named Indian Pole Gymnastics.

Introducing the Yoga Trapeze

I haven’t offered many training tools on this site for one reason. There’s only a select few things that can help you build strength, hand balancing and acrobatic ability.

Today I’d like to introduce you to one of those few things. This is the Yoga Trapeze.

(Forgive the cheesy music. I needed something to work with and its hard to find quality stuff that’s royalty free.)

This is something I’ve been using a lot recently and having a blast with. I like it so much I wanted to make it available here. You can read more about it and order yours today right here.

Hand on Hand Handstand

Mark apparently got this move from me (and I got it from Professor Orlick in the Hand Balancing Mastery Course), but the way in which he does it was new to me.

Once you get into a handstand move your hands in closer to a touching position, and then from there you move them even closer so a hand is on top of the other hand.

This in many ways mimics a one hand handstand as you’re lessening your base of support. A great lead-up stunt.

The difference is I had always kicked up into position with the hands closer or on top of each other, rather than moving them in. I have to say I like this one a bit more after having just played around with it, although both ways are valid.

One Arm Handstand Lean

In my working towards a one arm handstand I’ve figured out that the amount you must lean over your hand is quite significant. Even more than you may think is necessary. Without this lean you won’t be able to get into a balance.

So if you’ve been working towards this skill like I have, try leaning even more to the side, to the point where it feels like you’ll fall over that way. Right at that point is where you’ll be capable of balancing.

If you look at a bunch of one handed handstand pictures you’ll be able to notice the balance point of where people are at. You can then tell if they’d be able to hold the position of are about to full right out of it.

Just a short tip for today.

Most Dangerous Handstand Stunt

Hope, pointed this video out to me. I just recently featured Rudi Macaggi doing a one hand handstand on a guitar.

But this stunt takes the danger level to an insane level.

(Obvciously Rudi is a professional and in no way should you attempt this stunt at home.)

Amazing Hand Balancing Feats

I just read my recent copy of the Dinosaur Files newsletter available from Brooks Kubik. Great training information though much more about lifting heavy weights than hand balancing it did have the following interesting reports I thought worthy of sharing.

Learn How to Back Flip in 31 Days

These originally come from Gord Venables in the magazine Strength and Health.

Greco Mangini could support his 170-pound brother Bruno for a full minute in a single-arm hand-to-hand stand. He also could walk 50 feet while holding this brother in a single-arm hand-to-hand stand.

At the York Strength Show on November 18, 1939, John Deimar supported five barbells on one foot while balancing himself in a handstand – and for good measure, drank a glass of water while doing so. (At any other picnic, they at least would have of let him enjoy a cold beer!)

I would definitely like to have seen these in action. I don’t even know how you would go about balancing fiver barbells on a single foot!

For those very skilled and reading this, maybe you’ll try to emulate these great hand balancing feats.

New to Parallel Bars

I was back at gymnastics last night.

Instead of the normal routine of starting with a bunch of tumbling we did something different by working on the parallel bars. Besides a few dips this is not something I’ve much experience in.

Hand Balancing Made EasyHandBalancingMadeEasy_on_Amazon

We started off with swings. Going from a planche-like position with a hollow body to just the reverse. You keep your arms locked out the entire time and generate momentum while keeping the body tight. In the future I may try to get some video or at least pictures up of it.

It’s a fun move and can be interesting once you start to get some real height on the swings.

We also did a few other basic moves like shoulder stands and various rolls.

By no means did I pull of anything amazing but since it was my first real introduction I’m happy with it. And I’ll definitely be back, especially working on those swings.

Good Luck and Good Hand Balancing,
Logan Christopher
