Over and Underbalancing in a Handstand

“Hey Logan, just a short question on the handstand, how do you get control when you go towards under balancing ( I think…I’m new to all this, hehe)? Because when I over balance I just push the floor with my fingers, but when I under balance I just have no idea what to do.”

Thanks,
Sebastien V-G

“Hey Logan, I felt like trying a handstand today, and I tried it. I think I did pretty good, but before I can even hold it for more than a few seconds, I lose my balance and fall forwards. I have read most of the articles on this website, and I have tried the handstand again, but I still keep falling forward. Any Help?”
-Andrew

Thanks for the questions Sebastien and Andrew. They are common ones and are really all about what it takes to stay in the handstand.

To begin with if you are overbalancing you will press your fingertips into the floor. If you are underbalancing you can’t really press your palm into the floor, but you’ll want to raise your fingers up.

This old article has more details on the science of balancing.

There are also other methods of saving your balance whether its over or under. Read this article on shoulder weaving. As Bob Jones recommends this is not for beginners.

Learning this control whether by action of the hands or shoulders takes lots of practice. It’s a fine skill and will take time to develop or else everyone would be able to hold a handstand with ease.

That’s why I developed my Secrets of the Handstand Quick Start DVD. Using lead-up stunts will better help you to develop that balancing skill. And this review from Julia shows you why.

“Hi Logan, I appreciate your interest and support.  You probably have the best support system I’ve seen for people using your products.

“The DVD is great, and I think it’s a valuable tool for anybody who wants to have a strong and stable handstand.  I can really see the value of the lead-up stunts, and why a freestanding handstand is a bad idea until I get my frogstand under control.”

Thanks a lot!
-Julia

If you can’t control you handstand for more than a few seconds check out the Secrets of the Handstand Quick Start DVD.

I kick some serious kndwoelge daily on this blog and don’t get so much as one comment. Steph tells everyone about a stupid little smiley face and the comments are approaching double digits. I’m done with this blog!JK, but for real I do see it now. It was just like it goes down at home. I am looking for something and I can’t find it and then 2T comes over and finds it in about 3 seconds and rightfully mocks me endlessly.JV

I’m not easily impressed but you’ve done it with that posting.

It is a $10 penalty for having luggage – the same way that “early bird discounts” are just a more palatable way to charge late fees and an incentive for early bookings. I believe I pointed out they are catching up – “particularly when applied to the size of the seats and charging fat people proportionately, or on some sort of pro-fata rate” – there’s an airline looking to charge fat people for overhanging baggage – as in fat that hangs over the handles. I read that somewhere last week. You do get one point though for spotting the typo. Not sure it needed to be shouted though.

CAAAALMA CAAAALMA

Here’s to more happy I want my kids to know it’s hard but more worth it than anything. That one tiny hug can erase eight hours of whining and miscommunication. That when they are big and making their own ways in the world I will cry and miss the painful moments, too.angela recently posted..

YES! Because breastfeeding mothers should never leave their homes! How dare they go out in public where their child might have an “unscheduled” need to feed or be comforted? *insert eyeroll*I see more breast exposure on women with skanky shirts than I do with any nursing mother I’ve ever been around. How about you attack the fashion industry, and those Victoria Secrets adds? Breasts are for feeding. You’re an adult. If you don’t like it…Don’t. Look. Pretty simple solution for your issue.

wonderful points altogether, you just received a brand new reader. What might you recommend in regards to your post that you just made some days in the past? Any sure?

I’m impressed you should think of something like that

  9. she didn’t like being PRETTY, she said she didn’t like being SEXY. I for one hate being considered sexy. I’d much rather be “cute”, but unfortunately, my figure doesn’t allow that. When I try and wear more girlish looking clothes, I usually look freaky and get hit on by creepy old dudes. It really sucks, and I totally get what Scarlett means. She said that she didn’t want to be a sex symbol, not that she didn’t want to be attractive! How much more obvious can you get?!

Erm, so how many operations does MEST support? Tim makes the far-too-common mistake in his post, of believing – in effect or in actuality – that MEPs have application semantics. They don’t!
